講義概要/Course description
Cool Japan

This course aims to outline and analyze the Cool Japan strategy from the Japanese government. Students will learn basic concepts related to Cool Japan at a global level, such as “soft power” or “kawaii (cute).” At the end of the semester, students will propose an improvement plan of how to promote Japan to the world in a final presentation and report.

- To understand the concepts and historical background of the Cool Japan strategy
- To evaluate the Cool Japan strategy conducted by the Japanese government 
- To develop critical thinking skills from remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating, to creating.

1 No formal textbook is required. However, the supplemented materials, including video, some reports, and selected additional readings will be made available electronically.

This course strongly encourages and welcomes open communication. Rather than a lecturer, the instructor will act as a facilitator in the class. Questions and discussion in the classroom will also be a central part of teaching. Many topics in the class will be explored through in-class discussions and activities related to assigned readings. 

*We will have a small quiz at the end of every class (1 open-ended question).

1.Be attentive to the other speakers and ask questions of the presenting student. 
2.I take class attendance seriously. 
• A student with less than 80% attendance will not receive a good grade.  
• A student who attends less than 1/3 of scheduled classes will receive a failing grade.
• Absence will be excused for special circumstances such as illness, family emergency upon written request.

Class attendance is counted by the quiz answer submission. Therefore, students who cannot participate in real-time class, please submit the answer before the deadline.
